Discussion Questions about Sir Robinson and Gotto

With the help of Gatto and Robinson I can too see that there are many flaws within our education system especially when it comes to the development of students throughout this system. Gatto and Robinson brings up many issue regarding our current education system which is creating a population of consumers and not creating a population of educated individuals. I believe that our current school systems are based around the aspect of developing people who want jobs in particular fields and obey the rules. But as Gatto explains it, our education system is based on industrialized ideas which in turn can explain why schools are trying to create consumers more than individuals. I believe schools are aimed at creating “sheep” people. “Sheep” people are a easy manageable consumer which fears punishment. These “Sheep” people care less about there own creativity and more worry about earning money so they can buy more luxury items. People are caring more today about their paychecks then they do their creativity, and I believe our school system is to blame for this. Our schools never offer enough classes that could cover the interests of students today. We are offered the base courses of math, English, science, language, etc. These are all courses that our governments believe to help create the best opportunity for jobs and consumerism. If this wasn’t a true statement then wouldn’t there be more classes offered to our students that enhance our creativity rather than push it aside?
